First of all, I realised I didn’t allow comments on my previous posts! Since I am always ending my posts with a question for you, I’ve changed it on all the posts. 🙂 Now on to the review!
Today I am finally reviewing the Nars Virtual Domination Cheek Palette. It is a limited edition holiday palette with 1 highlighter, 3 blushes and 1 bronzer. I bought this palette as a birthday present for myself. I had not tried any other products from the brand, but had heard great things about it. After a lot of thinking, doubting and review reading, I decided this was a great way to introduce myself to the brand and to get more for less money. Although still expensive I convinced myself I needed this in my life. Today I’ll share with you what I think about my decision!
One of the many things that attracted me to this product, is the packaging. It is a very sleek and sturdy palette with a huge mirror on the inside. I think the white cover with the pattern makes it a bit more festive then the usual plain black cover. I was very happy with the size choice of the different cheek colors, especially because the famous Laguna bronzer is the largest. The four other colors aren’t too small, I’ll probably not finish them anytime soon! I’d say this is a palette build to bring on vacation!
So far so good! Now on to the colors. I already said that the palette comes with the famous Laguna bronzer, which didn’t disappoint! The bronzer is not to orange and not too sparkly. I find it is very buildable. Another famous color in the palette is the Deep Throat blush. This is a pinky peach with some shimmer in it. It’s the color I thought I’d love the most. However, I’ve come to love the color underneath it ‘Final Cut‘ a lot more. The orangy color makes me look a lot more tanned than I really am. A little bit goes a long way with this color, you should definitely use a light hand! The last blush color is named Sex Fantasy. It’s a bright piggy pink. This is my least favorite color, but still very nice if I’m going for a girly look. Lastly, the palette comes with this Miss Liberty highlighter. This one isn’t a win for me. I find it way to glittery on my cheeks! So I had to find other purposes for it. I’ve started applying it in the inner corner of my eye to brighten that area or on my eyelids for an extra shiny effect.
Again, so far so good! However, there is one big downside! 😦 I am almost absolutely sure that the bronzer and I think the blushes as well make my skin breakout. After using it the first time I discovered blemishes on my cheeks and the temples of my face. This was very weird to me as I normally never get pimples on my cheeks and especially not this very sore kind. Ofcourse, I didn’t immediately link it to this palette, as I was still super excited I bought it! But after using it on and off for 2 months now, I’m almost sure it is the palette that causes the breakouts. I am so sad that this is the case, since I’ve spend a lot of money on it and I really like the colors! Maybe I should have tried one single product before buying the whole palette to see if my skin reacted to it. I’m still using it from time to time, just because I don’t wont it to be a waste. This is a lesson learned for the future!
I know the palette is no longer available everywhere, but I still wanted to warn you! Have you ever had a similar experience? What did you do with the product? Let me know!
